HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 c289W
78. Mr. Braine

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made with the proposal to grow cocoa in British Borneo.

Mr. J. Griffiths

Experimental plantings with seed from West Africa, Malaya and local sources have been carried out with varying but on the whole successful results. Some of the plants at three years are now beginning to bear, and results so far obtained encourage the hope that cocoa will make a useful contribution to the economy of these territories.
