asked the President of the Board of Trade how much softwood he estimates will be needed to meet the requirements of the defence programme for the calendar years 1951, 1952 and 1953.

Mr. Bottomley

It would not be in the national interest to divulge the quantity of softwood needed to carry out the defence programme; but I have no reason to believe that supplies will not be adequate to meet this requirement.
