HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c239W
Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Transport whether in the interests of road safety, he will circularise traffic authorities throughout the country to ensure that every uncontrolled road junction has some clear indication as to which road has traffic priority.

Mr. Barnes

Where traffic conditions warrant it "Halt" or "Slow—Major Road Ahead" signs are used to indicate to the driver that he is approaching an important road. I do not think a general priority rule for roads would be wise, as I fear that it might not make for the exercise of due care at junctions by drivers enjoying the priority.
