HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 cc236-7W
115. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Transport what reductions he has recently made to the coastguard services; and what bodies were consulted before the reductions were made.

Mr. Barnes

As part of a reorganisation of His Majesty's Coastguard, upon which I have decided after a careful review, one regular coastguard station has, up to the present, been closed and watch discontinued at 41 auxiliary stations. In addition to the interested Government Departments, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution was consulted. The Staff Side of the Departmental Whitley Council has also been consulted about the measures necessary to put the changes into effect.
