HC Deb 14 March 1951 vol 485 cc161-2W
45. Mr. Hoy

asked the Prime Minister if he has consulted with the Minister of Education on the suggestion, made by the committee set up by Mr. Speaker to consider the part of Parliament in the Festival of Britain, that schools throughout the country should be asked to organise a festival week for the children, in the course of which projects, lectures and other activities designed to interest the children in the importance of our democratic institutions and Parliament might be organised; and what developments he can report to the House.

Mr. Tomlinson

I have been asked to reply. I have issued a circular to local education authorities in which I have suggested a large number of ways in which schools might celebrate the Festival of Britain, and have drawn particular attention to the opportunity afforded of giving children a livelier appreciation of the working of Parliament. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of this circular.
