asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Chinese Social Club of Jesselton, North Borneo, has been closed down.

It is assumed that reference is intended to the Overseas Chinese Youth Association and a subsidiary of the Jesselton Chung Hwa Old Students Association. Applications made by these associations for registration under the Societies Ordinance were refused by the Registrar on security grounds on the 27th May, 1950. No appeal was made against this decision and the associations have since wound up their affairs.
