Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenportasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that manufacturers are not making a sufficient number of outsize garments under the utility scheme to fulfil all requirements and that as a result it is impossible for all persons of large physique to benefit by the scheme; and what action he proposes to take to help such people.
§ Mr. RhodesWhile outsize garments are made in considerable quantities within the utility scheme, there are and always have been some difficulties of supply since it upsets the normal routine of production to make fittings for people who differ much from the average size and shape. We do all in our power to encourage manufacturers to make the larger sizes. Higher prices ranging from 7½ per cent. to 22½ per cent., depending on the type of garment, are allowed to be charged to meet the additional costs of production.38W It may be necessary for persons of large physique to have some garments made to measure, and the utility scheme provides for this.
