asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the Government's desire to keep all men and women in employment as long as they can give useful service, irrespective of their age, he will cancel his office memorandum No. 55, dated 21st June, 1950, which states that all temporary staff must retire at the age of 65 years of age.

Sixty-five will remain the normal retiring age for temporary staff in my Department. But we are considering the circumstances in which people who wish to carry on can be retained, irrespective of their age, provided that they can do their work efficiently—and, of course, are needed for essential work.
