asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what access had Mr. Donald Maclean to atomic energy matters when he was employed in His Majesty's Embassy in Washington.

Mr. H. Morrison

Between January, 1947, and August, 1948, Mr. Maclean was concerned in His Majesty's Embassy at Washington with the political aspects of atomic energy matters, and with the discussions which took place during that period about co-operation in this field between the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. Mr. Maclean had no access to confidential technical information, and his connection with atomic energy matters ceased finally in August. 1948.
