HC Deb 04 June 1951 vol 488 cc68-9W
80. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Minister of Food what percentage of the sweet ration was taken up during each separate ration period, or double ration period, during the last 12 months; and what is his estimate of the corresponding percentage for the current period.

Mr. Webb

It is too early to estimate the rate for the current period.

Following are the figures:

According to the returns made by traders to food offices, the following proportions of the sweets ration were bought by consumers during the six 8-week periods ended 27th January, 1951:

8-week Ration Period Consumer Ration for 8-week period Percentage Off take
26th Feb. to 22nd April., 1950 (oz.) 40 97
23rd April to 17th June., 1950 40 95
18th June to 12th Aug., 1950 40 96[...]
13th Aug. to 7th Oct., 1950 40 96[...]
8th Oct. to 2nd Dec., 1950 40 96[...]
3rd Dec., 1950 to 27th Jan., 1951 46 94

From information at present available, it is estimated that the proportion for the 8-week period ended 24th March, 1951, will be about 96 per cent. of the ration of 42 oz.
