HC Deb 04 June 1951 vol 488 c72W
100. Mr. McLeavy

asked the Minister of Transport how many times the Minis try of Transport Road Safety Committee has met in each of the years 1949, 1950 and 1951, respectively; and what proposals the Committee has to make in view of the large increase in road accidents.

Mr. Barnes

The Committee on Road Safety met three times in 1949 and once in 1950. The Committee have not yet met this year but will do so in the near future. I would point out that the previous Committee on Road Safety have already made a very complete examination of the problem of road accidents and issued Reports in 1944 and 1947 dealing with all its aspects. The present Committee have, in addition, made two valuable reports on speed limit policy and pedestrian crossings and they will no doubt consider the current accident position at their next meeting.
