§ 64. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what directions have been given by the Far Eastern Commission as to the extent to which the 75,000 Japanese auxiliary police are to be trained in the usage of military weapons.
§ Mr. YoungerNone. The Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers is authorised to determine what weapons shall be used by the civilian police, under directives sent to him by the Far Eastern Commission in implementation of its policy decisions. The relevant decision, on basic post-surrender policy for Japan provides that "Japan … may have adequate civilian police forces."
