HC Deb 04 June 1951 vol 488 c61W
56. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why His Majesty's Government recently shipped a consignment of arms to Iraq.

Mr. Younger

By paragraph 5 of the Annexure to the Anglo-Iraqi Treaty of Alliance of 1950, His Majesty's Government undertook to grant, whenever they might be required by Iraq, all possible facilities in a number of matters including the provision of arms, ammunition, equipment, ships and aeroplanes of the latest available pattern. The equipment to which my hon. Friend refers formed part of a consignment released to Iraq in March of this year to meet certain outstanding requirements of the Iraqi forces.
