HC Deb 06 July 1951 vol 489 c251W
Mr. Profumo

asked the Secretary of State for Air how many families are at present accommodated on disused Royal Air Force sites; how many of these families are likely to be displaced within the next three years as a result of Royal Air Force expansion; and what are the terms of tenure under which these accommodating units are occupied.

Mr. A. Henderson

Former Royal Air Force sites used for housing are in the charge of local authorities or of other Government Departments, and I am informed that the number of families accommodated on them, and the terms of their tenancies, could not be ascertained without a disproportionate amount of work. Some of these sites were made available for housing on condition that they would be returned to the Air Ministry if they had to be brought into active use by the Royal Air Force, but I am unable to forecast how many sites will in fact be wanted back during the next three years.
