HC Deb 02 July 1951 vol 489 c194W
Mr. J. Morrison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department which police authorities have not yet started to replace police employed on indoor duties by civilians.

Mr. Ede

Since March, 1950, when I asked police authorities to review their practice with regard to the employment of police officers on indoor duties, the number of civilians, including cadets, employed in police offices has increased by 838. There are only three forces in which civilians are not yet employed.
