§ 23. Sir I. Fraserasked the Minister of Transport whether he has any statement to make about the level of capital investment in road, rail and other transport in the light of the overall reductions now proposed; and what items are to be afforded priority.
175W
§ Mr. BarnesAs my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has already informed the House, the provision of capital investment in roads and railways allows for increased expenditure in 1951, compared with that in 1950. The provision for ports also allows for some increase. Priority will be given to maintenance of trunk and classified roads, the provision of additional rolling stock and essential maintenance of railway works and structures and some further reconstruction of warehouses and other terminal facilities at ports.
