VISCOUNT TEMPLHWOOD

asked His Majesty's Government what are the figures for recruitment to the police forces in the country, specifying separately the figures of the Metropolitan Police, during the last six months, and what are the corresponding figures of wastage.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR: During the six months ended December 31, 1950, 3,007 men and 178 women joined police forces in England and Wales; of these 717 men and 58 women joined the Metropolitan Police Force. Two thousand three hundred and ninety-two men and 122 women left during the same period including 616 men and 26 women from the Metropolitan Police Force. I am unable to say how many of those who left had joined during the same period.
