HL Deb 20 February 1951 vol 170 c443WA
VISCOUNT TEMPLEWOOD

asked His Majesty's Government how many attendance centres have now been opened under the Criminal Justice Act, 1948, and whether any detention centres have been opened, and if so where, and if not, when it is proposed to open any.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

Three attendance centres are open and it is hoped to open four more this year. No detention centres have yet been opened. Owing to the restrictions on capital investment, there can be no prospect of pro-viding new building for this purpose in the near future. The Prison Commissioners have, however, been searching for existing premises which might be adapted for use as detention centres, and hope to be able to open two experimental centres in such premises within the next year.
