HC Deb 15 February 1951 vol 484 cc95-6W
101. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what facilities he provided during the recent visit of the American Director of Civil Defence for him to visit the Civil Defence College; and what consultations he and his officials had with the American Director.

Mr. de Freitas

My right hon. Friend was very glad to have the opportunity of meeting Mr. Millard Caldwell (the United States Federal Civil Defence Administrator) and his colleagues and arranged for them to obtain from officers of the Home Office and other Departments information about the organisation of civil defence in this country. The programme included visits to the Civil Defence Staff College, one of the Civil Defence Technical Training Schools and the Headquarters of the Metropolitan Police and of the London Fire Brigade. My right hon. Friend had two interviews with the Administrator and his colleagues. The visit, I believe, was of mutual benefit to our two countries.
