§ 98. Mr. Pagetasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement with regard to the position of Class Z Reservists who have joined Civil Defence organisations, and as to the desirability of members of Class Z Reserve joining Civil Defence organisations in the future.
§ Mr de FreitasThe liability of Class Z (or equivalent) Reservists to return to the Colours over-rides any obligations which they may have undertaken in Civil Defence; but the categories of Reservist who are permitted and, indeed, encouraged to volunteer for Civil Defence are those who are less likely than others to be so recalled. It is the Government's view that all Reservists who are eligible to join Civil Defence should do so.
