HC Deb 15 February 1951 vol 484 cc97-8W
104. Mr. J. Hudson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many licensing divisions in England and Wales in the year 1950 the compensation levy was imposed at the full rate or a reduced rate, respectively; in how many divisions it was not imposed at all; and whether in all the divisions which did not impose the levy the Secretary of State is satisfied that there are no redundant premises and has received certificates to that effect from the licensing justices.

Mr. Ede

The figures are 38, 31 and 55 respectively, excluding licensing planning areas, in which the levy is suspended by Section 8 of the Licensing Planning (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1945. I have received from all but one of the compensation authorities who have not imposed a levy the certificates required by section 21 of the Licensing (Consolidation) Act, 1910, that it is unnecessary to do so.
