HC Deb 15 February 1951 vol 484 c97W
102. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how long Mr. A. S. Dunlap, an American citizen, was detained at Heath Row on Tuesday, 6th February, 1951; what the immigration officer said to Mr. Dunlap; on what grounds he was detained and interrogated; and what account Mr. Dunlap gave to the immigration officer of his business in Britain.

Mr. Ede

Mr. A. S. Dunlap arrived at London Airport on 6th February at 9.15 p.m. and was allowed to land in transit at 11.20 p.m. when it was established that he intended to travel to the U.S.A. next day. He was questioned at some length because there were grounds for thinking that his purpose in coming to this country was to stir up industrial unrest in order to further his own business interests.
