§ Mr. Llewellynasked the Minister of Food what percentage of meat consumed in South Wales is imported into Cardiff Docks.
§ Mr. WebbAbout 22 per cent. of all the meat issued for the ration in South Wales during 1950 was imported into Cardiff Docks.
§ Mr. G. Thomasasked the Minister of Food the number of ships that have been directed by his Department to discharge at Cardiff during the past year; and whether he will attempt to increase this number.
§ Mr. WebbOne hundred and seventy-six ships carrying imports controlled by my Department discharged at Cardiff last year. Forty-nine of them were deep sea ships and 127 coast-wise ships. We shall continue to do our best to see that Cardiff and the other South Wales ports get a fair share of our traffic, but it should be recognised that I have no compulsory powers of direction over shipping.
