HC Deb 05 February 1951 vol 483 cc177-8W
Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will give details of the strength of the Class Z Reserves, with special reference to the strength of age groups, to the number of disabled persons, and to the proportion of married to unmarried persons upon it.

Mr. Strachey

The present strength of the Z Reserves (including Z, Z (T), W and W (T)) is 2,850,380 other ranks. The strengths by age groups at the latest known date, 31st August, 1950, are shown below. Other ranks not up to the medical standard required by the Army are not normally relegated to, or held on, the Reserves. Instances occur, however, where reservists become unfit after delegation. Where individual cases are reported, immediate discharge action is taken. As Reservists in this class are only required to notify changes of address, and not changes in their marital status, the proportion of married to unmarried persons is not known.
