HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 cc270-1W
Miss Ward

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in view of his policy of making motor car manufacturers keep a pool of cars available for his Departmental allocation, he will state the numbers of cars so held at 30th June, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951; how the cars were allocated in each respective year; what total charge to his Department was incurred in each year: and what action he took with regard to cars surrendered in exchange for new cars.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Motor car manufacturers are not required to keep a pool of cars available for Departmental allocation. Old cars exchanged for new cars are sold if beyond economical repair, or reconditioned and subsequently issued to meet Departmental requirements.
