HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 cc229-30W
58. Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture what new steps he proposes to take to ensure the continued collection of kitchen waste for feeding to livestock.

Mr. Champion

In view of the continuing need to secure the maximum home production of feedingstuffs and in the interests of animal health, the Government have decided to put the collection and processing of kitchen waste in Great Britain, hitherto carried out under emergency regulations, on a more stable basis. Legislation for the purpose will be introduced as soon as opportunity offers.

I should like to take this opportunity of thanking on behalf of my right hon. Friend those local authorities and others who have helped throughout the past 10 years in performing such a valuable service, and to ask them and the public for their continued support.
