HC Deb 26 April 1951 vol 487 cc90-1W
69. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the eye strain suffered by girl workers making the new sheer nylon stockings, owing to the fineness of the fibre; what research work is being carried on to relieve the strain with a view to such work being undertaken without injury to health.

Mr. Robens

I understand that skilled processes of this kind, whilst involving no risk to eyesight, do give rise to complaints of fatigue, usually by workers in training or with uncorrected visual defects. Very fine work in industry has been the subject of much expert study by ophthalmic surgeons and others, and I understand that further investigations on several lines are in progress.
