§ Sir H. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement with regard to the increase in the Import Duties on ladies' hats entering the United States of America.

WilsonThe United States Government have given notice that it is proposed to withdraw as from the 1st December, 1950, the tariff concessions negotiated at Geneva in 1947 on women's fur felt hats and hat bodies valued at more than nine dollars but not more than 24 dollars per dozen. This action is being taken in accordance with the provisions of Article XIX of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Details of the higher duties will be published in the Board of Trade Journal. The particular range of products affected does not represent a substantial United Kingdom export interest.
