HC Deb 20 October 1950 vol 478 cc283-4W
Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Education how many children are accommodated in nursery schools in the City of Stoke-on-Trent; what is the average cost per child a week; and the total number of persons directly employed in this service.

Mr. Tomlinson

There are at present 465 children on the registers of the seven nursery schools maintained by the local education authority for Stoke-on-Trent. For these children the staff is 16 teachers, 26 nursery assistants, and 11 meals assistants. Current average costs per child per week are not at present known, but in the financial year 1949–50 when the average number on registers was 342, the average cost per child per school week was £1 5s. 0d., exclusive of the cost of medical inspection and provision of meals.
