HC Deb 20 October 1950 vol 478 c284W
Mr. Nigel Fisher

asked the Minister of National Insurance how many of those who took part in the recent gas strike have drawn National Assistance during their refusal to work.

Dr. Summerskill

Precise information is not available but the National Assistance Board inform me that grants were made to about 150 of the men referred to. Apart from some five cases where a special grant was made to meet urgent need all grants to these men during the dispute provided for the needs of dependants only.
