HC Deb 21 November 1950 vol 481 cc32-3W
104. Squadron Leader Burden

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will take action to stop overcharging by some manufacturers of women's utility dresses made from rayon cloth, 1005/2 and 1006/2, particulars of which were sent him on 17th November, 1950.

Mr. Rhodes

I understand that the hon. and gallant Member is referring to a report that some manufacturers of the dresses in question have been taking advantage of the arrangements which were designed to give wholesalers and retailers a reasonable opportunity of disposing of stocks bought before the manufacturers' maximum prices were reduced last August. The Wholesale Textile Association have now informed me that these arrangements are no longer necessary, and the wholesalers' ceiling prices will accordingly be reduced as soon as possible to correspond with the reduction in the manufacturers' maximum prices.
