§ Mr. de FreitasIn England and Wales during October, 12,157 recruits joined the Civil Defence Corps, bringing the strength at the end of the month to 73,666; and 456 recruits joined the Auxiliary Fire Service, bringing the strength at the end of the month to 5,892.
Following are detailed figures relating to the Civil Defence Corps:
arrangements are being made for the approach routes to be specially sign-posted, and the area will be policed both by officers on foot and by mobile patrols in wireless contact with a local traffic control headquarters at the South Bank Exhibition and with the central traffic Headquarters at Scotland Yard. The Commissioner of Police is preparing regulations under the statutory powers vested in him, covering the scheme of 201W traffic operation, and these will be adapted as necessary to meet any emergency that may arise.
