HL Deb 08 November 1950 vol 169 c244WA
LORD STRABOLGI

asked His Majesty's Government whether it will be possible to broadcast the forthcoming Variety Command Performance and, if not, whether the reasons can be given; and if His Majesty's Government are aware of the benefit such a broadcast would be to old people and to others who rely upon broadcasting for much of their entertainment.

THE EARL OF LUCAN

The content of broadcasting programmes is a matter for the B.B.C., from whom it is understood that the Royal Command Variety Performance will not be broadcast because permission has been withheld by the Variety Artistes' Benevolent Fund.

House adjourned at three minutes past five o'clock.
