§ 56. Mr. Bossomasked the Minister of Agriculture if he will arrange for the National Farmers' Union to have cheap cartridges to enable public shoots to be held against rooks and jackdaws, whose depredations are now seriously jeopardising this year's crop.
§ 59. Brigadier Thorpasked the Minister of Agriculture if he will issue 12-bore shot-gun cartridges at reduced prices in order to reduce the number of rooks this season.
Mr. T. WilliamsIssues of cheap cartridges were made to farmers exceptionally in the past two years in order to encourage and assist more intensive action than usual against rooks, which had increased appreciably in numbers during the war years owing to a decline in normal rook shooting. I am satisfied that, taking the country as a whole, these special campaigns have fulfilled their purpose, and I have decided to discontinue the supply of cheap cartridges for rook shooting this year.
