HC Deb 04 May 1950 vol 474 cc220-1W
53. Lieut.-Colonel Corbett

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps are taken to ensure a satisfactory calcium content in lime spread on farms and subject to subsidy; and what standards are required.

Mr. T. Williams

There are no standards of general application, but liming materials are not approved under the agricultural lime scheme unless they are suitable for agricultural use; their prices are based on quality specifications which the producers are required to maintain. Samples are taken at the works to ensure that the quality of the output from production plants does not fall below the agreed standard and, in addition, under the Fertilisers and Feeding Stuffs Act the seller must give the buyer the statutory declaration.
