§ 70. Sir W. Smithersasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the total number, at the latest available date, of officials authorised to carry out inspections and investigations in private houses and premises without a search warrant.
§ Mr. JayThe power to enter private houses and premises is, apart from a limited category of cases, available only where they are used for business purposes; and in practice its exercise is confined exclusively to cases where the building is used for these purposes. The number of persons authorised to enter in such cases is about 15,000.
