HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 c70W
121. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made with the Ten-Year Development Plan in Mauritius.

Mr. J. Griffiths

The implementation of the Mauritius Ten-Year Development Plan, which was drawn up in July, 1946, has been hampered by lack of specialist staff and construction materials, but steady progress has been made on the agricultural, education, fisheries and medical projects, and a Development Authority composed of official and unofficial members was set up in 1948.

In March, 1949, a Committee of unofficial members of the Legislative Council was appointed to review the Plan. The Committee reported early this year, recommending extensive changes. The Government is now revising the plan with a view to further consideration by the Legislative Council.
