HC Deb 04 December 1950 vol 482 c14W
94. Mr. J. Hynd

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is yet in a position to make a statement about the supply of vehicles to the home market in 1951.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

An increase in the output of motor vehicles cannot be expected in the near future owing to the shortage of materials, and supplies to the home market could be increased only at the expense of exports. Manufacturers' quotas of cars for the home market for 1951 will be at the current annual rate—namely, 110,000 cars. The quota for commercial vehicles will be 95,000, including 8,500 passenger service vehicles. The position will be reviewed from time to time.
