HC Deb 04 April 1950 vol 473 cc128-9W
99. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the urgent problem of school accommodation in new housing areas in Glasgow; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Herbison

My right hon. Friend is seriously concerned about the educational position in the new housing areas of Glasgow and he is allotting as large a share of capital investment as he reasonably can to, the authority. His Majesty's inspector keeps a close watch on progress and constantly gives advice. Architects of the Scottish Education Department visit Glasgow each week to consult with the authority's architects, and the Scottish Education Department are doing everything they can to help the authority, upon whom, however, the primary responsibility rests.
