asked the Minister of Works what is the number of building trade workers registered at the last available date; and what percentage of that number were employed on house building.

Mr. Stokes

The number of building workers employed by building firms registered by the Ministry of Works at the end of January, 1950, was estimated to be 985,000, of whom 24 per cent. were employed on new house building and a further 26 per cent. on other housing work, including repairs and maintenance.
