Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Health what were the numbers in 1947 and 1948, first half, of infants born, infants dying before vaccination age, infants vaccinated, infants exempted, and infants neither vaccinated nor exempted; and what was the percentage of vaccinations in each of those years.

Information is not available beyond the end of 1947, and particulars can only be given for that year as a whole. They are as follows, based on births registered in 1946 because this best serves the purpose:—

Births registered in 1946–823,627.

Infants died unvaccinated—27,646.

Infants vaccinated—342,996.

Infants exempted—281,730.

Infants neither vaccinated nor exempted—171,255.

Percentage of infants vaccinated—41.6 percent.
