HC Deb 24 November 1949 vol 470 cc50-1W
Mr. Janner

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has considered representations from drapers that there is a shortage of utility clothing, such as Terry squares, towelling, rayon underclothes, winceyette nightgowns, rayon gingham, drill, winceyette, satin, velveteen, linings, ticks, sheets, pillow-cases and table cloths; and what action he proposes to take to increase supplies.

Mr. J. Edwards

Production of some textile goods is still not sufficient to meet all home and export market demands and there is in consequence a tight supply position on certain utility items, mainly in cotton goods. Every practicable step is being taken to increase output, and it is, in the main, to increased production that we must look for relief of the remaining shortages.
