HC Deb 21 November 1949 vol 470 c1W
8. Mr. Carson

asked the Minister of Food how many tins of oysters have been imported to this country from the United States of America since January, 1946; what average price was paid for them; and what was the average retail price charged.

Mr. Strachey: 1

understand that private traders imported before May, 1947, about 850,000 ½ lb. tins at an average price of about 2s. 7d. per tin c.i.f. This importation was then prohibited. The selling price is not controlled.
