HC Deb 21 November 1949 vol 470 c1W
7. Mr. Walkden

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the tins of dried eggs now being offered to the British housewives bear the imprint, "For European Recovery supplied by the United States of America "; and, in view of the fact that consumers have to pay 2s. 6d. per tin for this dried egg, if he will have this wording amended.

Mr. Strachey

This dried egg was bought with Marshall Aid funds and the imprint was placed on them by the American authorities. Moreover, the price to us was about one half of the cost to the United States Government. I feel sure the hon. Member will agree that in these circumstances it would be ungenerous to do as he suggests.
