asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why his Department has made no estimate of the value of British assets and investments in Hong Kong, and no estimate of the revenue received in this country arising out of such assets and investments.

The compilation of such figures on any reliable basis is a matter of considerable complexity, and accurate results are very difficult to obtain. I have, however, established in the Colonial Office a Statistics Department to secure up-to-date statistical information on this and other subjects so far as it is possible to do so.
