HC Deb 02 March 1949 vol 462 cc50-1W
89. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Minister of Transport what system of priority exists between shipments to East Africa, on behalf of the Overseas Food Corporation, and private traders; and what approximate delay occurs at present in despatch for the two different categories of shippers.

Mr. Callaghan

At Dar-es-Salaam there is appreciable delay and measures are in hand to improve the facilities. In the meantime, a working party representative of all the interests concerned decides which cargoes shall be shipped month by month. The average delay in the despatch of general cargo to the port is between two and four months for all classes of shippers.
