Fletcherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to the introduction of legislation to provide for special penalties or enhanced sentences which could be imposed by courts upon persons convicted of burglary and other crimes which have greatly increased particularly in the Metropolitan Police district.
§ Mr. EdeThe maximum penalties for burglary and housebreaking are imprisonment for life and 14 years' imprisonment respectively. I have no reason to think that these penalties, or the penalties which may be imposed by courts for other crimes, are inadequate.
