Mr. Greyasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the difficulty experienced by the Hetton Urban District Council and other authorities in the disposal of waste paper stocks, which, during recent weeks, merchants have been unable to accept; and what steps does he intend to take to enable local authorities to dispose of the mentioned stocks.
§ Mr. J. EdwardsI would refer my hon. Friends to the reply given on 30th June to my hon. Friend the Member for Cambridge (Mr. Symonds), from which they 145W will see that the compulsory directions on local authorities to collect paper salvage are being withdrawn. I recently received a deputation from representatives of local authorities, and certain proposals which they made are being considered.
