HC Deb 21 February 1949 vol 461 c223W
1. Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Food what additional rations are available to workers in heavy industries; through what agencies or by what means these additional rations are available; and in particular what rations are available to workers in the building industry.

Mr. Strachey

Apart from the extra meat allowed for underground coal miners, workers in heavy industries do not receive extra individual rations. A substantially increased scale of allowances of rationed food is, however, provided for Category A and B industrial workers' canteens for feeding such workers on the job and is available to the building industry for workers engaged on construction or excavation. A special cheese ration is given to certain categories of workers, mainly agricultural, for whom the provision of canteen or other catering facilities is impracticable, and this is available for the same reason to building trade workers regularly employed in rural areas.
