HC Deb 21 February 1949 vol 461 c227W
54. Mr. Gooch

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps he proposes to take to secure heavier plantings of spring wheat; and whether he is satisfied that his target of 2,340,000 acres will be reached.

Mr. T. Williams

I have already called the attention of farmers to the serious fall in the acreage of winter wheat sown, as indicated by the 4th December returns and have urged them to plant the maximum acreage of spring wheat. County committees will be using their influence in the same direction, but I doubt whether the full target acreage will be reached.
